RIO GRANDE, Ohio -- University of Rio Grande ended Lindsey Wilson College's decade-long strangle hold on the Mid-South Conference Tournament tonight with a 2-0 win at Evan Davis Field.
The top-seeded and host RedStorm ended Lindsey Wilson's 25-match winning streak at the MSC Tournament becoming the first team, other than the Blue Raiders, to win the championship since 1999.
No. 1-ranked Rio Grande (21-0) earns the conference's automatic bid into the NAIA National Championship which begins on Nov. 20.
Rio Grande's Ederson Lopez scored both goals in the game to lead the RedStorm. Lopez scored in the second and 12th minutes to give Rio the early 2-0 lead.
The two goals would be all Rio Grande defense and goalkeeper Jack Marchant would need.
Lindsey Wilson falls to 15-3-1 overall on the season. The Blue Raiders -- ranked No. 5 in the NAIA coaches' poll -- must wait and see if they will receive one of the at-large bids into the national tournament.
The NAIA announces the national tournament field and brackets on Nov. 14.
