Not This Time: Men's Basketball Handles Berea 89-60

COLUMBIA, Ky. -- Berea (Ky.) College nipped the Lindsey Wilson College men's basketball team in overtime on Nov. 16, but a lot changed in 13 days as the Blue Raiders overwhelmed the Mountaineers 89-60 on Monday at Biggers Sports Center.

The Blue Raider lead got to double figures within the first 10 minutes and never stopped growing as they led by as many as 29 points at the end of the game.

Berea's star, Darrin Dorsey, who lit up Lindsey Wilson for 30 points in the first meeting, was limited to just 18 due to strong defensive performances by sophomore Kalen Kimberland and senior Brandon Clemons.

Junior Justin Archie paced Lindsey Wilson with a career-high 17 points, five steals, four assists and three blocks as Kimberland and junior Chase Spreen chipped in 15 points each. Junior Charles Baker led the attack on the boards with eight rebounds.

Dorsey's 18 led Berea, despite being six points off his average. Rudy Evans was next in line with 14 points. The offensive outputs for both were offset by sloppy ball handing, as Evans had eight turnovers and Dorsey gave up six.

The Blue Raiders fell behind 2-4 in the opening minutes, then regained the lead on a put back by senior Kemo Duncan and never relinquished it again.

With six minutes to play in the opening half, Duncan came up with another basket to push the Blue Raiders up by 17 (29-12) and the lead only grew from there.

The second half was dominated by Lindsey Wilson. Reserve junior Dominic Stewart put the cap on the blowout with a driving layup in the final seconds that gave the Blue Raiders their final 29-point advantage.

Lindsey Wilson played a clean first half with just three fouls, but the physical play picked up in the later stages as the Blue Raiders finished with 15. They sent the Mountaineers to the free-throw line 18 times where they hit just 12 for 66.7 percent.

The Blue Raiders took just six shots from the charity stripe, hitting four for an identical 66.7 percent mark.

Neither team shot the ball remarkably well from the field either with Lindsey Wilson holding a slight 48.1 percent to 42.6 percent advantage. Lindsey Wilson did make Berea pay inside, scoring 50 points in the paint compared to just 26 from the visitors.

Junior Stelios Tzoutzis scored the first points of his Lindsey Wilson career in the second half, finishing with two points and an assist.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action with its Mid-South Conference opener at 7 p.m. CT at the University of Virginia at Wise in Wise, Va., in the second game of a doubleheader with the Blue Raider women.
