Women's Soccer Falls 2-0 to Robert Morris to End Season

Box Score

DECATUR, Ala. -- The Lindsey Wilson College women's soccer team's season ended today with a 2-0 loss to Robert Morris (Ill.) College at the NAIA National Tournament.

Lindsey Wilson closes its season with a 16-7 record following the second round loss. Robert Morris advances into the national quarterfinals where they face defending national champion Lee (Tenn.) University on Wednesday.

The opening 15 minutes of the match proved uneventful as each team tried to familiarize itself with the pitch and conditions. The game was relocated to an alternate field due to heavy rains -- more than four inches during the last 48 hours. In addition to the saturated field, the teams encountered high winds and temperatures in the low 30s.

Robert Morris' first offensive threat produced the match's first goal as Ilana Milkez scored in the 16th minute to give the No. 10-seed Eagles the 1-0 lead.

The Blue Raiders just missed tying the game on what would be their best scoring opportunity of the first half in the 38th minute. LWC freshman Ida Sorensen's header beat Robert Morris goalkeeper Jeannette Williams, but was deflected off the line by an Eagle defender to preserve the Robert Morris lead.

Three minutes later, Robert Morris' Linda Mathisen extended the Eagles' lead to 2-0.

Following a Lindsey Wilson foul, a Robert Morris free kick from 25 yards out reached the penalty area where Mathisen collected the ball and beat Blue Raider goalkeeper Reiko Yoshida for the 2-0 lead.

The Eagles (19-2-1) led 2-0 at halftime.

Seventh-seeded Lindsey Wilson dominated the possession in the second half but could never find the back of the goal.

The Blue Raiders out-shot the Eagles 12-0 after the break, but Williams proved equal to the task stopping each of Lindsey Wilson's shots on goal. Williams finished the game with 10 saves.

Lindsey Wilson ended the dreary night out-shooting Robert Morris 16-4.

Lindsey Wilson closes the 2010 season as the Mid-South Conference regular season and tournament champions.
