Box Score COLUMBIA, Ky. -- West Virginia University Institute of Technology outscored the Lindsey Wilson College men's basketball team 33-28 in the second half, forcing the Blue Raiders to hit their free throws down the stretch to hold off the Golden Bears 73-66 on Thursday at Biggers Sports Center.
Andrija Tintor led Lindsey Wilson to victory on his senior night with 22 points and nine rebounds, while his classmate Eric McPherson added 18 and Chase Spreen poured in 13 points off the bench.
The Golden Bears were led by Robby Marshall with 24 points and six rebounds and Darryl Slack with 15 points.
Tintor and McPherson put on an offensive show in the first half. The senior pair each scored 12 points by halftime and helped the Blue Raiders to a lead as high as 17 points (38-21) on a layup by Chase Spreen.
McPherson picked up half of his total at the free-throw line on six consecutive shots. Roi Buchbinder was assessed two technical fouls and West Virginia Tech coach Bob Williams picked up another on the bench giving McPherson the opportunity to put the Blue Raiders on a 6-0 run without ever leaving the stripe.
Lindsey Wilson led by just eight points when the technicals were called, but after McPherson's spree at the line and a basket and free throw by Darren Ballou, the Blue Raider advantage ballooned to 17 points with just under five minutes to play in the half.
While McPherson and Tintor had success for the Blue Raiders, the Golden Bears also had a pair of high scorers in the half as Marshall tallied 11 points and Slack took 10 points into the locker room at halftime.
After Tintor made a shot off an assist by Kalen Kimberland at the 10-minute mark of the second half, Lindsey Wilson led by 13 points (61-48). Then West Virginia Tech reeled off a 10-2 run fueled by three straight field goals by Marshall to pull within five points (63-58) with just over six minutes to play.
Zack Thomsen came through with a jumper from the corner on the next Golden Bear possession to make the score 63-60 with 5:27 on the clock, but the three-point deficit was as close as West Virginia Tech would get as the Blue Raiders pushed back out to an eight-point lead after a 3-pointer by Kimberland and shot in the paint by Tintor.
The Blue Raiders shot 46.3 percent from the field, but just 23.5 percent (4-of-17) from the 3-point line in the win. The Golden Bears finished the game shooting 40.0 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from 3-point range, but were edged on the glass 36-34.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 3 p.m. CT on Saturday, Feb. 27 at St. Catharine (Ky.) College in the final game of the regular season.
