Box Score COLUMBIA, Ky. -- Sofie Bloch Jorgensen's goal in the 77th minute seemed like icing on the cake, giving the sixth ranked Lindsey Wilson College women's soccer team a 2-0 lead over No. 23 Auburn University Montgomery (Ala.). But a late score by the Lady Senators made it much more important in deciding the 2-1 Blue Raider win.
With 56 seconds to play in the game, Yana Gates broke free for an AUM score to bring her squad within a goal of Lindsey Wilson. The Blue Raiders held strong through the remaining seconds, clearing the ball when possible en route to sealing the win.
Junior midfielder Elisha Fry broke open the 0-0 tie that lasted through halftime in the 66th minute on a penalty kick after Daisy Burnfield committed a foul inside the box. Fry's attempt sailed cleanly into the lower left side of the goal.
Lindsey Wilson led the game in shots 13-8 and saves as goalkeeper Jordan Morrison collected five, while Burnfield took in four.
The win for the Blue Raiders is their 100th at Walter S. Reuling Stadium.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 5 p.m. CT on Tuesday, Sept. 14 against Campbellsville (Ky.) University in the home Mid-South Conference opener.
