Box Score COLUMBIA, Ky. -- The fifth ranked Lindsey Wilson College women's soccer team played even with top ranked Concordia (Ore.) University until the 72nd minute when Kaitlyn Tebbs rebounded a shot missed by Lauryn Helmers for the game-winning goal in the Cavalier's 1-0 win on Friday in the KELME Classic at Walter S. Reuling Stadium.
Neither team had a lot of opportunities to score as there were just 11 shots taken in the game with Concordia holding a slight advantage 6-5.
Lindsey Wilson keeper Jordan Morrison finished the game with two saves and the one goal allowed, while Concordia's Tori Talbutt finished with one save.
Lindsey Wilson got one good chance at the equalizer in the final five minutes when defender Elisha Fry made a solid backwards pass to a cutting Mia Persson near the goal which she booted just inches over the top of the goal.
Helmers looked to have the game-winner scored herself as her shot nicked the crossbar and fell just outside the goal. The near miss allowed Tebbs to rush in and take possession just a few feet from the goal for the easy score.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 7 p.m. CT tomorrow against California Baptist University in the final day of the KELME Classic.
Sixth ranked California Baptist beat seventh ranked Martin Methodist (Tenn.) College 2-1 in the opening game today as Martin Methodist and Concordia will play the opening game tomorrow night at 5 p.m.
