No. 2 Men's Soccer Knocks Off Shawnee State 1-0 in the 98th Minute

COLUMBIA, Ky. -- After 98 minutes of intense action on the field, the second ranked Lindsey Wilson College men's soccer team is still undefeated.

It took a goal found out of a defensive scrum by Moses Aduny in the 98th minute of play to do it as the Blue Raiders escaped Shawnee State (Ohio) University in overtime 1-0 on Saturday at Walter S. Reuling Stadium.

Sophomore Musa Mawanda got the final sequence started for Lindsey Wilson, sending a cross into the box that fell through a host of defenders and onto the foot of Aduny to bring the game to a close in the golden-goal format extra time.

Up until that it had been a game of stellar defense by the Bears and missed opportunities for the Blue Raiders.

While Shawnee State jammed up to nine defenders around the box most of the game, Lindsey Wilson still managed to get off 19 shots in the game, but only Aduny's score found its way into the back of the net.

The Bears finished with just eight shots, while Lindsey Wilson closed the game with a 7-4 advantage in shots on goal.

Shawnee State, led by Chad Johnston's four shots, attacked the Lindsey Wilson goal with multiple deep shots, looking to sneak one over Blue Raider freshman keeper Yuta Nomura. The tactic brought on some breathtaking moments, but ultimately all of the deep balls were at least a foot too high.

Both team's keepers played all 98 minutes as Nomura finished with four saves and received the shutout and Bear keeper Kevin Fischer made six saves before allowing the overtime goal.

Most of the Blue Raiders' missed chances came on penalty kicks, as they led the Bears in chances 9-2.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 7 p.m. CT on Thursday, Oct. 13 at Ave Maria (Fla.) University in Ave Maria, Fla.
