Box Score COLUMBIA, Ky. -- Handing Indiana Wesleyan University its first loss of the season on Saturday 65-62 in Biggers Sports Center was a team effort for the 22nd ranked Lindsey Wilson College women's basketball team.
But when one of those team members is Ashley Rainey, it makes things a lot easier.
Rainey, the 6-2 junior from Bowling Green, Ky., scored a team-high 28 points and pulled down a game-high 16 rebounds, all while also blocking away three shots.
Rainey was the unstoppable force for the Blue Raiders, while freshman Monny Niamke did her damage from outside the paint, hitting three 3-pointers to finish with 18 points.
While Niamke and Rainey were special on Saturday, Indiana Wesleyan's Krystal Stoneking had a night to remember herself.
The Wildcats' senior post player tallied a game-high 29 points and six rebounds, which included knocking down her first career 3-pointer.
Stoneking didn't get a lot of help offensively as her partner in the post Paige Smith was the next leading scorer with 11 points.
Indiana Wesleyan entered the game with an unblemished 12-0 record, including a two-point win at Campbellsville (Ky.) University on Friday and is ranked No.1 in the NAIA Div. II Women's Basketball Poll.
Except for two ties in the game's first two minutes, Lindsey Wilson led the entire first half.
A basket by Rainey in the paint with two minutes to play gave the Blue Raiders their largest lead of the first half at 11 points, but three minutes earlier the lead had been just three.
Lindsey Wilson jumped ahead by 13 after halftime, but 19 minutes later it was anybody's game.
With 39 seconds to play Stoneking sank a layup to pull Indiana Wesleyan within one at 63-62, then Blue Raider senior Ashley Franklin hit just the front end of bonus free throws.
The Wildcats' Freeman missed her running jumper in the paint, allowing Rainey to claim the rebound and once again hit just the first of two shots.
Out of a timeout with one second to play, Indiana Wesleyan's Stephanie Burtch heaved up a three from around 25-feet out that fell short.
Lindsey Wilson blistered the nets for a 51.0 percent field-goal percentage and 33.3 percent mark from behind the arc. Indiana Wesleyan struggled from deep, hitting just 4-of-12 attempts.
The Blue Raiders had a strong showing on the glass as well, leading the game 35-27 with sophomore Jasmine Brimm also collecting five rebounds.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 5 p.m. CT on Jan. 5 at West Virginia Tech in Montgomery, W. Va.
