COLUMBIA, Ky. –Freshman midfielder Laerke Lillelund Michaelsen scored her first career goal in the 58th minute, but it was only good enough for a tie as the sixth ranked Lindsey Wilson College women's soccer team allowed 19th ranked Spring Arbor (Mich.) University to net the equalizer in the 78th minute for a 1-1 double-overtime tie.

The battle of top-20 teams lived up to its billing as each displayed stellar defense, limiting the amount of offensive opportunities in the game.

A combined 26 shots were taken with 15 on goal. The major statistical difference in the game was Lindsey Wilson (0-0-1) taking seven corner kicks, compared to two for the Cougars, yet none of the attempts resulted in a goal.

After a scoreless first half, the goal Lindsey Wilson managed to net was the result of senior defender Elisha Fry kicking a quick pass to Michaelsen in stride as the newcomer rushed the goal right down the middle of the box.

Once she received Fry's pass, Michaelsen was left with a one-on-one situation against Cougar goalkeeper Brooklyn Morgan that she took advantage of for the score.

Twenty minutes passed before Spring Arbor (0-0-1­) made its mark on the scoreboard as Maegen Smith rifled a deep shot that made its way over the outstretched hand of Blue Raider senior keeper Jordan Morrison and into the back of the net.

Michaelsen, sophomore Elizabet Madjarac and senior Diana Da Rocha all took shots at the goal over the last 12 minutes, but all were saved, leaving the 10-minute extra periods as the last chances to decide a winner.

The extra time mirrored regulation as offensive chances were scarce to the tune of just two shots taken in both extra periods combined.

Both were taken by Lindsey Wilson, but the attempt by sophomore midfielder Hanna Jonsson in the 94th minute came closest from the left side of the goal, but was ultimately snagged by Morgan who finished with six saves for the game.

Morrison collected seven saves, while both goalkeepers played all 110 minutes of the contest.

Lindsey Wilson outshot its opponent 15-11, while Spring Arbor committed 14 fouls compared to just eight for the Blue Raiders.

Michaelsen and Madjarac did the majority of the shooting for Lindsey Wilson with four attempts each, while Smith led Spring Arbor with five shots, including four on goal.

Tonight's game marked the fifth straight season Lindsey Wilson and Spring Arbor have opened their seasons against each other, with the Blue Raiders winning three games and tying the other two.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 6 p.m. CT on Aug. 28 against SCAD Savannah (Ga.) in Cleveland, Tenn.
