No. 6 Women's Soccer Tops No. 8 Indiana Wesleyan 1-0 on Madjarac Goal

Box Score

COLUMBIA, Ky. -- Lindsey Wilson College sophomore Elizabet Madjarac said she felt like she couldn't score last season in the postgame interview, but that fear was put to rest for 2011 on Wednesday night as she put away a goal to lift the sixth ranked Blue Raider women's soccer team over eighth ranked Indiana Wesleyan University 1-0 at Walter S. Reuling Stadium.

The winning effort was played in front of a capacity crowd, the kicker being that the fans weren't in the normal seats.

Couch Night, hosted by the college's student government association, brought the student body nearly onto the playing field with couch's lining the sideline to help cheer on Lindsey Wilson in its top-10 battle.

While it was a defensive showcase for most of the match, the fans got a moment of excitement when Madjarac sent her first goal of the season into the back of the net in the 53rd minute.

Junior Mia Persson started the goal-scoring opportunity deep on the left side of the goal where she found senior Ida Gregersen crossing through the middle of the box. Gregersen then made a quick touch to Madjarac standing unmarked in front of the goal for the score.

Wildcat keeper Jamie Speidel had been knocked off balance in an attempt to make a save on a shot by Gregersen, but the savvy senior leader made the needed extra pass to make things easy for Madjarac.

The rest of the Blue Raiders' offensive game could be summed up as missed opportunities as they outshot Indiana Wesleyan 24-5, including 10 shots on goal. In that mix was a first half shot by Michelle Madsen that hit the crossbar and junior Patricia Nielsen having another near miss on the rebound.

While the lone goal stands out due to the low-scoring affair, Speidel still put together a nice performance, making nine saves in a game that could have easily been a much larger margin for the Blue Raiders.

Lindsey Wilson senior keeper Jordan Morrison had a relatively quiet day with the Blue Raider backline providing ample protection.

Morrison finished the night with two saves while playing all 90 minutes. The 1-0 decision also gave Morrison her first shutout of the season.

The Blue Raiders dominated shots on goal 10-2 and held a large advantage in corner kicks 7-2. If time of possession was kept, the numbers would show that Lindsey Wilson held the ball much longer and spent much more time attacking the goal.

Lindsey Wilson, now 5-2-0 against Indiana Wesleyan all time, returns to action at 10 a.m. CT on Sept. 10 at St. Catharine (Ky.) College in St. Catharine, Ky., for the Mid-South Conference regular-season opener.
