Women's Soccer Overcomes Deficit in 2-1 Win over William Carey

CLEVELAND, Tenn. -- A dominate second half propelled the Lindsey Wilson College women's soccer team to a 2-1 win over William Carey (Miss.) University on Thursday at the Lady Flame Classic hosted by Lee (Tenn.) University.

The No. 3-ranked Blue Raiders outshot the Crusaders 15-1 in the second frame to overcome a 1-0 halftime deficit en route to their fourth straight win this season.

The Lindsey Wilson offense applied continuous pressure after the break scoring the equalizer just four minutes into the second half. The Blue Raiders finished the half with 10 shots on goal.

Lindsey Wilson's Hanna Jonsson netted her first goal of the season at the 49:27 mark with an unassisted goal from just outside the penalty area to tie the game at 1-1.

While the Lindsey Wilson (4-0-1) attack continued, William Carey goalkeeper Gemma Layfield proved equaled to the task stopping eight Blue Raider shots in the half and 12 for the match.

But the Lindsey Wilson attack finally succeeded as Ida Gregersen scored the game-winner in the 77th minute. Gregersen scored her fourth goal of the season from inside the penalty area off a cross from Elizabet Madjarac to give the Blue Raiders the lead and eventually the win.

For the match, Lindsey Wilson outshot the No. 16-ranked Crusaders (2-2) 24-9 and recorded a 17-1 advantage in corner kicks.

William Carey opened the scoring in the 38th minute on a goal from Tori McDevitt from 30 yards out.

The goal ended Lindsey Wilson goalkeeper Jordan Morrison's 227-minute scoreless streak. Morrison finish the game with six saves in the win.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 6 p.m. CT on Saturday, Sept. 17 as the Blue Raider face No. 2-ranked and host Lee in the final game of the classic.
