Third-Ranked Women's Soccer Upsets No. 2 Lee 3-1

Box Score

CLEVELAND, Tenn. -- The Lindsey Wilson College women's soccer team scored three unanswered goals to beat host Lee (Tenn.) University 3-1 tonight in the final game of the Lady Flame Classic.

The No.3-ranked Blue Raiders (5-0-1) made every one of their three shots on goal count in the win over the second-ranked and three-time defending national champion Lady Flames.

"Tonight was a total team effort," Lindsey Wilson women's soccer coach Drew Burwash said. "From our back line to the middle we were solid and our front-runners didn't create a lot of chances, but the chances we had we capitalized.

"This is a great confidence boost for our club. Lee is a great team, but tonight was our night."

Lindsey Wilson senior goalkeeper Jordan Morrison was solid all night between the pipes. She finished the match with six saves to pick up her fifth straight win this season.

While Morrison and the back line limited the Lee attack, a trio of Blue Raiders each scored a goal to help Lindsey Wilson win for the ninth time in 12 all-time meetings with the Lady Flames.

Lee (3-2-0) opened the scoring in the 23rd minute as Charlotte Canlett beat Morrison with a header from deep inside the penalty box. Caroline Scales set up the goal with a cross from the left flank to give the Lady Flames a 1-0 lead.

The Blue Raiders tied the game in the 32nd minute as freshman Laerke Michaelsen scored off junior Mia Persson's assist. Persson delivered a beautiful pass from the right endline that Michaelsen one-touched and scored for her team-leading fourth goal of the season.

The first half closed with the match tied at 1-1.

Lindsey Wilson sophomore Elizabet Madjarac put the Blue Raiders on top 2-1 in the game's 67th minute. Madjarac dribbled through the Lee defense and banged home the eventual game winner -- her team-leading second game-winner of the season -- off the left post and past Lee goalkeeper Leah Wilson. Wilson failed to collect a save in the match.

The Blue Raiders nursed the one-goal lead through the 83rd minute when sophomore Saeda Sueki scored an insurance goal to give Lindsey Wilson a 3-1 lead.

Lee managed just one shot over the final 15 minutes of the match as the Blue Raiders closed out the win and a successful weekend -- Lindsey Wilson beat No. 16-ranked William Carey (Miss.) University on Thursday -- at the Lady Flames Classic.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 1 p.m. CT on Tuesday, Sept. 27, as the Blue Raiders travel to Auburn University Montgomery (Ala.)
