GEORGETOWN, Ky. – Lindsey Wilson College scored eight goals for the third time this season and Philip Sandgren registered a hat trick with three goals in an 8-0 win at Georgetown (Ky.) on Tuesday.
Sandgren, who ranks fourth in the NAIA with 16 total goals, has three hat tricks this season and has scored a goal in 10 of his 13 games played. Against the Tigers (2-10, 2-5 MSC) he was a problem at the very beginning of the game.
In only the game's third minute, Sandgren issued an unassisted goal that was a foreshadow into a big night of scoring for the Blue Raiders. Tom Moody struck next on a penalty kick in the 16th minute and a minute later Sandgren had scored again off an assist from Kirk de Boer.
Before the horn could blow for halftime, Lindsey Wilson (12-1, 8-1 MSC) had scored three more times to take a 6-0 lead into the break. Also scoring in the opening frame were Eddy Campbell twice in the 31st and 42nd minutes, while Sandgren competed his scoring with another goal in the 36th.
Lindsey Wilson scored early in the second half, then let off the gas to cruise to an easy Mid-South Conference win on the road. Lebogang Moloto made it 7-0 with a 58th minute strike and Yazeed Davids scored the final goal in the 61st.
Other than de Boer, Campbell, Moody and Davids were also credited with assists in the game.
The Blue Raiders finished with a 34-6 shot advantage, including a 21-2 advantage in shots on goal. Lwandiso Gonya kept the most active with 10 shots, while the Tigers were led by Taylor Shaver and Trent Body with two each. Sandgren placed five of his six shots on goal, while Moody was a perfect 3-for-3 putting his attempts on frame.
Jesper Malmstrom and Yuta Nomura each played a half in goal with Nomura getting the start and finishing without a save. Malmstrom collected both of Georgetown's shots on goal.
The Tigers used three different goalkeepers, while Stefan Iverson stayed in the longest with nearly 59 minutes. Iverson took the brunt of the shot attempts, allowing seven of the eight goals with 11 saves.
Lindsey Wilson returns to its home pitch at 7 p.m. CT on Saturday, hosting No. 18 Bryan College at Walter S. Reuling Stadium.
