Buthelezi's Header Completes Senior Night Win

COLUMBIA, Ky. -- Sicelo Buthelezi completed his regular season career in style on Tuesday night. The senior defender scored a golden goal to help the Lindsey Wilson College men's soccer team to a 1-0 win over visiting Martin Methodist (Tenn.) College at Walter S. Reuling Stadium.

Prior to the game, Buthelezi and his fellow seniors were honored on Senior Night as the Blue Raiders closed out the 2012 regular season.

Buthelezi scored the only goal of the hard-fought match as the newly anointed No. 1-ranked Blue Raiders improved to 16-1 on the season. Earlier in the day, Lindsey Wilson moved up one spot to regain the No. 1 ranking in the NAIA Coaches' Top-25 Poll.

In the 108th minute, Keletso Mosime sent a free kick from about 25 yards off the left flank into a crowded penalty area and onto the head of Lwandiso Gonya. Gonya flicked it perfectly to Buthelezi who headed home the golden goal for the win.

The goal is Buthelezi's fourth of the season.

The dramatic ending capped off a competitive match where each team ended with 16 shots.

The RedHawks (11-5-0) hit the target seven times only to be turned away each time by Yuta Nomura. The clean sheet is Nomura's fifth shutout of the season.

Lindsey Wilson ended with five shots on-goal. Martin Methodist Stephen Lunney finished the game allowing the one goal while collecting four saves.

The Blue Raiders begin postseason play on Saturday in the Mid-South Conference quarterfinals at Walter S. Reuling Stadium. Second-seeded Lindsey Wilson hosts No. 7-seed St. Catharine College at 7:30 p.m. CT.
