Trio of Second-Half Goals Push No. 3 Women's Soccer Past No. 23 AUM

Box Score

COLUMBIA, Ky. – A scoreless game at halftime turned into a 3-0 rout as the second-ranked Lindsey Wilson College women's soccer team found its groove late to knock off 23rd-ranked Auburn-Montgomery (Ala.) on Tuesday at Walter S. Reuling Stadium.

After a quiet first half, Saeda Sueki got things rolling in the 71st minute, kicking in a goal off a cross into the middle of the box by Laerke Lillelund Michaelsen. That score prompted a flurry of goals as Mia Persson joined the act in the 77th and Lillelund Michaelsen finished things off with a third goal in the 83rd.

There were plenty of chances to break the game open earlier but Lindsey Wilson failed to finish, playing in dreary conditions with a cold, drizzling rain falling throughout the night. Still the Blue Raiders outshot the Warhawks 15-2, including an 11-2 advantage in shots on goal.

Making the goals special for Sueki and Persson was the fact they came on senior night as the duo joined classmate Elisha Fry for their final regular-season games on their home pitch. Fry finished with one shot on frame, while Persson fired a game-high seven shots.

With the win, Lindsey Wilson improves to 13-3-1 overall, while Auburn-Montgomery drops to 11-5-2.

The Warhawks had shots on goal from Margret Albertsdottir and Melissa Ledesma and finished with just one corner-kick chance on the night, compared to seven from the active Blue Raiders.

Holly Clarke spent all 90 minutes in goal for AUM, stopping eight shots with the three goals allowed. Josephine Frigge went the distance for Lindsey Wilson, registering the shutout, while only needing to make one save.

All three Blue Raider goals were assisted as Emilia Jonsson provided the last touch on Persson's goal and Persson got the assist to Lillelund Michaelsen.

Lindsey Wilson next action will be in the postseason as it hosts Rio Grande (Ohio) in the opening round of the Mid-South Conference Championship at 5:30 p.m. CT on Saturday, Nov. 3 at Walter S. Reuling Stadium.
