Ronoh Wins Again, Women's Cross Country Fourth at MSC Championships

RIO GRANDE, Ohio -- A pair of Lindsey Wilson College women's cross country runners earned all-conference today at the Mid-South Conference Championships hosted by University of Rio Grande (Ohio).

Sharon Ronoh took home the top prize -- MSC Women's Runner of the Year -- while Sophie Tonneau joined Ronoh on the all-conference first team.

The top-seven scorers in the event earned first-team honors while the next seven earned second-team honors.

Ronoh finished the 5,000 meters with a time of 18 minutes and 18 seconds taking home first place, but it wasn't without drama.

Leading by a wide margin, Ronoh made a wrong turn during the latter moments of the race taking her off the predetermined course. Following the race, it was discovered that an administrative error -- a gate was not opened by the officials after the first run through the course -- forced Ronoh to make the wrong turn.

Ronoh was awarded the win based on her substantial lead at the time of the oversight. It is the second straight MSC Runner of the Year award for Ronoh.

Ronoh's finish helped the Blue Raiders post 94 team points and a fourth place finish.

Shawnee State (Ohio) University captured the team title with 39 points followed by University of the Cumberlands (Ky.) in second with 56 points.

Cumberlands' Darcy Mascotti and Danielle Hoop finished second and third overall with times of 18:45 and 18:46 respectively. The pair -- who originally crossed the line ahead of Ronoh -- was moved back to second and third after the final adjustment.

Mascotti and Hoop did not encounter the same oversight as Ronoh during the race.

Tonneau crossed the finish line in 19:28 to finish in sixth place. Not only did Tonneau earn all-conference honors, but she earned a trip to the national championships on Nov. 17 after being one of the top-5 individuals not on the winning team.

Maria Sanchez (21:17) and Amanda Bland (21:45) ended in 26th and 31st respectively.
