Box Score COLUMBIA, Ky. -- A second-half surge helped the No. 24 Lindsey Wilson College women's basketball team pull off a 93-85 win against West Virginia Tech on Thursday in Biggers Sports Center.
The Blue Raiders held their biggest lead of the game at 24 points with six minutes left to play as they reversed the script from the slim 46-40 lead they held at halftime.
Despite the big lead, the Golden Bears were able to make things interesting late, pulling within seven points in the game's final minute, but it was too little, too late to beat the Blue Raiders.
Ashley Rainey led the way for Lindsey Wilson with 22 points and 11 rebounds, Sarah Gillis poured in a career-high 21 points and six assists on a career-best six 3-pointers. Monny Niamke was balanced as well with 19 points and three steals.
Amy Gardner was a threat all night for the Golden Bears with a game-high 28 points and six rebounds.
Second-chance points and free throws are what helped keep the Golden Bears in the game as they outrebounded the Blue Raiders 41-38 and shot 76.1 percent from the free-throw line. Still, there was not enough time on the clock for the Golden Bears to complete a comeback.
Ranika Rone was back in the starting lineup for Lindsey Wilson and contributed with four points and two offensive rebounds, while Samantha Johnson also added some offense with five points and two boards.
The Blue Raiders were lethal from the 3-point line all night, shooting 43.3 percent (13-of-30), much better than their 29.8 percent average on the season.
Lindsey Wilson is back in action at 2 p.m. CT on Saturday, Feb. 11 against Rio Grande (Ohio) in Biggers Sports Center.
