Box Score PORTSMOUTH, Ohio -- Ninth-ranked Shawnee State's (Ohio) 58 rebounds were an opponent high against No. 23 Lindsey Wilson College this season as the Bears' Alex Pohl led the way with 23 points and 17 boards to cruise past the Blue Raiders 91-63 on Thursday at the Frank and Janis Waller Gymnasium.
Lindsey Wilson had little help on the glass with a depleted number of players available.
Leading scorer and rebounder Ashley Rainey (24.5 PPG, 11.5 RPG) missed the trip for personal reasons and Monny Niamke was held out of the first half for a violation of team rules. The Blue Raiders finished with 41 boards, 17 behind the Bears.
Niamke led the Blue Raiders in scoring with 19 points in just 17 minutes on the court. Jasmine Brimm joined her in double figures with 10 and paced the team with seven rebounds.
Pohl was joined in double figures by Schera Sampson with 19 points and 11 rebounds, Alannah Sheets with 12 points and two 3-pointers and Catrice Mitchell with 10 points and six boards.
Led by Niamke's 7-of-11 shooting performance, the Blue Raiders finished just 33.3 percent from the field, while Shawnee State hit at 45.8 percent.
The Blue Raiders hot 28 3-pointers, hitting eight, compared to a 6-of-22 night from deep for the Bears.
Before eight minutes had been played the Bears had raced out to a 22-4 lead, with all four Blue Raider points scored by Ranika Rone. Finally Michelle Copley added another Lindsey Wilson name to the box score with a 3-pointer.
Things didn't get better for the Blue Raiders over the next four minutes as Shawnee State jumped ahead 29-12 behind a layup from Pohl and 3-pointer by Sheets. Sampson added to the Blue Raider's pain with a 3-point play, followed by another Pohl layup to put the Bears up by 19.
Connecting on its fourth three-point play of the first half, Pohl sank the shot and free throw to put the Bears up 45-18 and totally dominate the final 12 minutes of the opening half.
Niamke started the second half and while she finished with the team-high in points and helped push the tempo for the Blue Raiders, a comeback proved out of the question.
The Bears continued to play their starters the majority of the second half after tallying a 49-22 halftime lead. Shawnee State dominated the backboards and continued to turn Lindsey Wilson over to build a 76-49 lead with 5:54 left to play.
The final five minutes of the game consisted of a lot of free throws with both teams in the bonus and a lot of layups as the defenses started to back off the pressure.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 1 p.m. CT on Saturday at No. 17 Georgetown (Ky.).
