FRANKFORT, Ky. -- Cold shooting doomed No. 8-seed Lindsey Wilson College as top-seeded Union (Tenn.) used six 3-pointers from Amy Philamlee to end the Blue Raiders' season 63-50 on Thursday night in the NAIA Women's Basketball National Championship at the Frankfort Convention Center.
The Blue Raiders (20-13) shot just 35.8 percent from the field and 25.0 percent from behind the arc, while Union and Philamlee blistered the nets for 40.0 percent from deep.
The Bulldogs tallied a 42.1 percent clip from the field.
Lavanda Ross scored a game-high 25 points for Union (32-2) and Philamlee tallied 18 in the winning effort.
Lindsey Wilson was led by Ashley Rainey's 15 points and 11 rebounds and Kasey Litzinger joined her in double figures with 13.
It was a struggle to score in the early going as a layup by Monny Niamke put Lindsey Wilson in front 6-4 five minutes into the game.
"We fell in love with the three too much tonight," said Lindsey Wilson coach Steve Beck. "We talked about shot selection in the pregame, we talked about it during timeouts, we talked about it at the half -- sometimes we just get into that mode where we think it looks like the best shot and we kept firing them up."
The Blue Raiders fell behind 11-9 six minutes later until Sarah Gillis sank a deep 3-pointer to put them ahead 12-11 with just under nine minutes to play in the first half.
After that shot the rims seemed to get a bit larger as Philamlee proved to be the difference in the half, hitting all four of her 3-point attempts to finish the half with 12 points.
Ross wasn't bad either, routinely beating her defender to the rim to tally 15 first-half points, just three below her 18.0 points-per-game average. Her layup at the one-minute mark gave the Bulldogs a 29-24 lead.
Union eventually went ahead by as many as 10 points in the final seconds, but Rainey gave Lindsey Wilson some momentum at the break with a buzzer-beating three from near half court.
At halftime, Union led Lindsey Wilson 34-27, taking advantage of a 54.5-percent 3-point effort.
Whatever momentum Rainey's shot brought didn't last long in the second half as Union opened the half on a 7-2 run that really opened a gap that Lindsey Wilson could never close.
The closest the Blue Raiders climbed back to was a nine-point deficit on a hail mary pass from Rainey to Jasmine Brimm for a layup with 12 minutes to play.
Union eventually went up by as many as 20 points on a three by Shelby Ashcraft with four minutes left.
Lindsey Wilson made a small rally late to get back within 13 on a jumper by Taylor Lockridge in the final minute, but it was too little, too late as the 2011-12 season came to an end for Lindsey Wilson in the championship's first round.
"I can't fault our team because I really think we played hard," said Beck. "It just wasn't good enough tonight."
