Men's Golf Wins Stroke Play, Loses President's Cup against Campbellsville

COLUMBIA, Ky. -- The Lindsey Wilson College men's golf team opened its 2012-13 season this weekend with the annual President's Cup matches with Campbellsville (Ky.) University at The Pines at Lindsey Wilson.

Campbellsville capture the President's Cup for the first time in the four-year history of the matches with an 11-10 victory. Lindsey Wilson won the stroke play event played concurrently with the matches.

The Blue Raiders shot a two-day, team-total of 562 (284-278) to win the stroke play -- consisting of the top four scores of the five designated team members -- by 10 strokes over the Tigers.

In the match play format, Lindsey Wilson trailed 4-3 after Saturday's better-ball matches.

Lindsey Wilson and Campbellsville provided seven two-man teams on Saturday with each golfer playing his own ball. The better score of the tandem was used in the match play event to determine the winner of the each hole and eventually the match.

On Sunday, 14 singles matches were contested with each team capturing seven points.

Lindsey Wilson's Nathan Clark earned medalist honors in the stroke play event with a 9-under par 133 (66-67) over the two days.

Clark -- who wins his second career tournament at Lindsey Wilson -- finished with a tournament-best 14 birdies, including a stretch of six straight on Sunday.

Clark's nearest competitor was teammate Nathan Hincks who finished five strokes back at 4-under par. Hincks provided a pair of 69s over the two days and finished one of three golfers to record double-digit birdies for the tournament. He finished with 10 birdies.

Hincks' 69 bested his previous career-low round by six shots.

Lindsey Wilson's Jonathon Grabara -- playing as an individual in the stroke play tournament -- finished third with a 139 (70-69). Lindsey Wilson's Daron Morris (73-67) and Campbellsville's Trey Shirley (74-66) tied for fifth with 140s.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action September 6-7 as the Blue Raiders travel to the Bill Sergent Invitational hosted by the University of the Cumberlands at Crooked Creek Golf Club in London, Ky.
