No. 3 Women's Soccer Wins on Late Penalty Kick over No. 4 Embry-Riddle

Box Score

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Lindsey Wilson College senior Elisha Fry converted a penalty kick in the 87th minute to lift the No. 3-ranked Blue Raiders to a 2-1 win over fourth-ranked Embry-Riddle (Fla.) University.

The match was the first of four games contested at the Concordia (Ore.) University Cavalier Cup -- an invitational which boasts four of the NAIA's top-12 teams this weekend in Portland.

Fry's goal -- her first of the season -- came on the heels an Embry-Riddle foul in the penalty area. The senior calmly found the back of the net to give the Blue Raiders (1-0-1) the lead and ultimately the win.

Embry-Riddle falls to 1-2 with the loss.

Lindsey Wilson jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after Laerke Lillelund Michaelsen scored an unassisted goal past Embry-Riddle goalkeeper Lauren Gallant's outstretched hands in the 17th minute.

The Blue Raiders had three other good chances to add to their lead in the first half only to be turned away by Gallant and the Eagle defense. Lindsey Wilson finished the half outshooting Embry-Riddle 8-2.

In the second half, the Eagles scored the equalizer in the 69th minute as Krizzy Menez scored off a rebound to tie the game at 1-1.

The game remained tied and looked as if the Blue Raiders would have to endure their second straight overtime before the foul and subsequent Fry penalty kick.

Lindsey Wilson finished the match with a 15-8 shots advantage.

Blue Raider goalkeeper Loren Cerafice finished with the win while allowing a goal and gathering three saves. Gallant also finished with three stops in the match.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 5:30 p.m. CT on Sunday, Sept. 2, as the Blue Raiders play host and No. 2-ranked Concordia in the final day of the Cavalier Cup.
