Box Score COLUMBIA, Ky. – Laerke Lillelund Michaelsen and Mia Persson each scored three goals as the third-ranked Lindsey Wilson College women's soccer team routed Bluefield (Va.) College 9-1 on Wednesday at Walter S. Reuling Stadium.
Newcomer Natasha Gensetter took advantage of the large scoring output to tally a game-high four assists, while Elisha Fry (2) and Elizabet Madjarac also added goals for the Blue Raiders.
The Rams (4-4-0, 1-1-0 MSC) scored their lone goal in the 16th minute as Jessica Newman brought them within two scores at 3-1. But the early Lindsey Wilson (5-2-1, 2-0-0 MSC) goals were just a sample of what was to come as it finished the first half with a 6-1 advantage.
Persson completed her hat trick all within the first half, including a goal with just one second left on the clock before halftime. Lillelund Michaelsen scored twice in the first 45 minutes and then obtained the hat trick in the 50th minute with the first goal of the second half.
Fry scored her two goals well apart from each other, netting the first in the 27th minute off a touch from Gensetter before finishing off the game with a penalty-kick goal in the 89th minute.
Madjarac scored the only unassisted goal of the game in the 86th minute after a long run on the right side of the box.
It was the worst start that Bluefield could have imagined, finding itself down 3-0 before seven minutes had ran off the clock. The Rams stayed on their heels the rest of the way, watching the Blue Raiders accumulate a 23-4 advantage in shots.
Persson paced Lindsey Wilson with nine shots, including six on goal, while Lillelund Michaelsen was impressive netting her three goals on just four shots with three on target.
Newman and Enajah Winbush each fired a pair of shots for Bluefield with Newman putting both attempts on goal and Winbush putting one on frame.
Josephine Frigge spent nearly 77 minutes in goal for the Blue Raiders with two saves before giving the keeper spot over to Loren Cerafice.
The Rams used a different keeper in each half. Kayla Richardson played the first with three saves and six goals allowed, while Cortney Pattison left her spot on the pitch in the second half to record two saves as the goalkeeper.
The game was the first meeting between the two programs as Bluefield is in its first season as a member of the Mid-South Conference. It was also Lindsey Wilson's first home contest since the season opener on Aug. 25.
