Box Score

COLUMBIA, Ky. – Ashley Rainey provided a double-double of 18 points and 13 rebounds to give Lindsey Wilson College its first win over Cumberlands (Ky.) in seven tries, topping the Patriots 55-53 on Saturday afternoon at Biggers Sports Center.

The Blue Raider lead went as high as eight points in the second half, but a basket from Dice Bicane tied the score at 53-53 with just over three minutes to play.

Luckily for Lindsey Wilson, Jasmine Brimm scored a minute later to give it a two-point lead, and those were the last points scored in the game. The Patriots missed two threes and a layup and Brimm missed a pair of free throws down the stretch.

The final horn came after Cumberlands' Jessica Upchurch had her shot blocked by Rainey to preserve the win.

Sarah Collins also reached double figures for the Blue Raiders with 11 points, while Brimm added 10. Jadelyn Proffitt came off the bench to score six points and dish out a team-high three assists.

Lindsey Wilson improves to 13-6 overall with the win and an even 5-5 in Mid-South Conference play, while the Patriots drop to 11-8 and 4-6 in league play. The Blue Raiders are back on the court Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. CT when they travel to Wilberforce (Ohio).

Jackie Alexander's jumper 12 minutes into the game gave Cumberlands its largest lead of the game at 20-11. The Patriots continued to lead the rest of the half, taking a 30-26 advantage into halftime.

A free throw from Collins tied the score at 30 just two minutes into the second half and a layup by Rainey off a pass from Tara Arnold gave Lindsey Wilson just its second lead of the game at 39-37 with 12 minutes to play.

Cumberlands tied the score three more times the rest of the way but never regained the lead.

Neither team shot the ball well from the field as Lindsey Wilson led the way 38.3 to 34.5 percent. The Blue Raiders struggled to 16 percent from deep, while the Patriots hit 36 percent of their threes.

The game came down to turnovers, which Cumberlands led 19-16 and points in the paint where Lindsey Wilson took control 30-20. The Blue Raiders also capitalized at the free-throw line, hitting 17 compared to just seven for Cumberlands.

It looked to be anybody's game with the score tied at 39 midway through the second half, but Lindsey Wilson gave itself a cushion with an 8-0 run and outlasted a late run to pull off the win.
