No. 8 Men's Basketball Upends Rio Grande 89-61 on the Road

RIO GRANDE, Ohio – Lindsey Wilson College fell behind 4-2, but not too long later took a 20-point lead and never let Rio Grande (Ohio) get any closer as the Blue Raiders routed the RedStorm 89-61 on Saturday at Newt Oliver Arena.

Daronte' Clark and Chris Bridges paced the Blue Raiders (15-2, 5-2 MSC) with 21 and 15 points, respectively, while Rio Grande (6-10, 2-5 MSC) got 18 points from D.D. Joiner.

The Blue Raiders scorched the nets all game long, hitting 50.0 percent from the field and 44.4 percent from behind the arc. Lindsey Wilson also hit 16-of-22 from the stripe to help hold on to its lead.

Utilizing four 3-pointers and a dunk from Watts, the Blue Raiders shot out to a 28-10 lead against the RedStorm after briefly trailing 4-2. The lead stayed large throughout the half as Kimberland drilled a three to put Lindsey Wilson in front 39-17 with 5:42 left in the half.

The rout didn't stop there in the opening half as Kimberland found Watts down low for a slam and came back and hit a three of his own on the next trip to make the lead 44-17.

Rio Grande, coming off a lopsided win against Campbellsville (Ky.), looked shell shocked the rest of the way against the Blue Raiders as it went into halftime down 54-21 to the hot-shooting Blue Raiders.

Lindsey Wilson hit 10 of its 15 3-point attempts in the first half.

The second half took on another narrative as play got chippy on the court. Rio Grande was whistled for three technical fouls, giving the Blue Raiders plenty of chances at the line to keep their lead.

A pair of free throws by Watts after a flagrant foul gave Lindsey Wilson a 71-41 lead with just over 11 minutes to play.

Lindsey Wilson kept the lead around 30 over the final stages of the game and held on for the 89-61 win.

The Blue Raiders are back in action at 8 p.m. CT on Thursday against Bluefield (Va.) at Biggers Sports Center.
