Women's Soccer 82 Game MSC Unbeaten Streak Snapped by Cumberland

LEBANON, Tenn. – The No.1 Lindsey Wilson women's soccer team was defeated 1-0 by No. 11 Cumberland (Tenn.) University on Wednesday afternoon.

The Blue Raiders (11-3, 5-1 MSC) drop their first conference game of the season to the Bulldogs and their first ever regular season loss after going 80-0-2 in their past 82 Mid-South Conference games.

Cumberland was able to capitalize on a cross from the right-side to a waiting Rhianne Parsons inside the 18-yard box, who headed it past Henrikson for the game winner in the 88th minute.

Lindsey Wilson had one last chance with less than 15 seconds left, Carola Schneider was able to get the ball into the penalty area but the ensuing shot by Cecilia Ekstrand was wide left.

Renee Hurd led the Blue Raiders with seven shots, four on goal, as they pressured the Bulldogs for the better part of the game but were unable to capitalize on any of those shots.

Cumberland had two quality shots in the last 15 minutes of the first half by Taylor Nay and Parsons but Lina Jepsen was able to make the saves and keep it 0-0.

Lindsey Wilson finished the first half with 10 shots, three on goal while Cumberland had five shots and four on goal to keep it even at half. Natasha Gensetter had the third shot on goal for the Blue Raiders.

Johanna Henrikson took over for the Jepsen to start the second half for the Blue Raiders as Jepsen finished the game with three saves on three shots.

Lindsey Wilson continued to pressure Cumberland, but was unable to put anything decent on net, outshooting the Bulldogs 16-6

The Blue Raiders had eight corner kicks as the Bulldogs finished with three.

The Blue Raiders return to action on Saturday afternoon, October 19, when they travel to the University of Pikeville (Ky.) for a 5 p.m. CT match.
