Box Score PULASKI, Tenn. -- Emilia Jonsson's golden goal with 5:25 remaining in the second overtime propelled the Lindsey Wilson women's soccer team to a 1-0 win over host Martin Methodist (Tenn.) on Tuesday night at the East Campus Soccer Field.
Jonsson secured the ball just outside the 18-yard box after a Martin Methodist defender attempted to clear the penalty area. She calmly struck a laser past RedHawk goalkeeper Aisling Dyer for the game-winner.
No. 5-ranked Lindsey Wilson (14-3) ended the match out-shooting No. 16 Martin Methodist 17-5 and 9-2 in shots on goal. The Blue Raiders also held a 12-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Both teams produce a quality scoring chance before the Blue Raiders won what is the fourth double-overtime match in the last five meetings between the two programs.
Martin Methodist's Jennifer Loewen's shot in the 56th minute proved to be the best RedHawk (11-4-1) opportunity of the night. Loewen -- who had two of her team's five shots -- attempted to beat Lindsey Wilson goalkeeper Johanna Henrikson by chipping a shot high from 15 yards away.
Henrikson managed to get a glove on the ball resulting in a ricochet off the cross bar. Henrikson finished with two saves en route to her third shutout of the season.
While the Blue Raider offense forced Dyer to make eight saves in the match, Lindsey Wilson's best opportunity -- prior to the Jonsson goal -- came late in the first overtime.
Lindsey Wilson's Katarina Simic headed a ball towards the goal off an Ayaki Shinada corner kick only to be turned away by a leaping Dyer. The ball sailed just high -- with Dyer's assistance -- to momentarily preserve the scoreless tie.
Jonsson made the most of her only shot on goal in the 105th minute to end the Blue Raiders' six-match winless streak against Martin Methodist. The goal is Jonsson's fifth of the season, including her second game-winner.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action Noon CT on Saturday, Nov. 2, at Bluefield (Va.) in the regular season finale.
