Women's Soccer Defeats Georgetown 3-1 to Make MSC Finals

COLUMBIA, Ky. – No. 4 Lindsey Wilson women's soccer defeated Georgetown (Ky.) College 3-1 today in the Mid-South Conference semifinal at Walter S. Reuling Stadium.

With the win, the Blue Raiders (17-3) advance to the MSC Tournament championship match on Friday against top-seeded Cumberland (Tenn.) University. Cumberland defeated St. Catharine (Ky.) College 2-0 in the first semifinal.

Lindsey Wilson's Cecilia Ekstrand scored the match's first goal in the 23rd minute from just inside the penalty box. Ekstrand took a pass from the right flank from Renee Hurd, spun towards the middle of the penalty area and scored to make it 1-0.

The Blue Raiders responded with a goal a little more than a minute later to make it 2-0. Hurd headed in her 11th goal of the season off an Ayaki Shinada corner kick. The assist was the first of two off corner kicks from Shinada -- who now has the Lindsey Wilson single-season record with 21 assists.

The second-seeded Blue Raiders led 2-0 at the half.

Georgetown cut the Lindsey Wilson lead in half in the 57th minute. Mackenzie Zimmer blasted a free kick from about 25 yards out into the far upper corner of the goal to make it 2-1.

Lindsey Wilson got that goal back less than a minute later when Shinada found Jamie Stanton off a corner kick. Stanton headed the ball into the net in the 58th minute to make it 3-1.

Lindsey Wilson's Johanna Henrikson made one save while allowing one goal. Georgetown's Brittney Moshos made seven saves for Georgetown while allowing three goals.

The Blue Raiders and Cumberland meet at 5 p.m. CT on Friday at Walter S. Reuling Stadium in the tournament finals. Cumberland won the regular season meeting 1-0 in Lebanon, Tenn.
