PORTSMOUTH, Ohio -- Kayla Richardson scored 21 points and Bre Elder chipped in 20 as the Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team upset No. 11-ranked Shawnee State (Ohio) 81-74 tonight in the Mid-South Conference opener at Waller Gymnasium.

The Blue Raiders (6-0, 1-0 in the Mid-South) used stellar free throw shooting to win for the first time at Shawnee State in four tries in the series history.

Lindsey Wilson ended the game making 37-of-44 from the free throw line, including its last nine over the final three minutes of the game to seal the win.

The Blue Raiders scored 12 of the first 16 points of the second half to build on their 33-30 halftime lead. They never trailed in the second half after three ties and four lead changes in the first half.

Lindsey Wilson -- who extended its lead to as many as 14 points in the second half -- enjoyed a 66-53 advantage with 5:28 left in the game before the Bears (4-2, 0-1) made a run.

Shawnee State cut the deficit to 71-66 with a 13-5 spurt over the next three minutes.

Diane Abbady scored four of her team-high 19 points during the run while Abby Feuchter and Alannah Sheets combined to hit three 3-pointers. Abbady added a game-high 23 rebounds for the double-double. Feuchter scored 13 points and Sheets added nine.

Elder thwarted the Shawnee State run with four straight points for the Blue Raiders for a 75-68 cushion with 41 seconds left.

Lindsey Wilson's Jamie Cummings -- who finished with 16 points and 11 rebounds for her second double-double of the season -- made four straight free throws to all but seal the win. The Blue Raiders led 79-69 with 25 seconds remaining following the Cummings free throws.

The Bears would score the next five points in their final gasp, but Elder closed out the game with a pair of free throws with 13 seconds left to give Lindsey Wilson the 81-74 win.

Both teams struggled offensively as the Blue Raiders shot just 38.2 percent (21-of-55) while the Bears were even worse at 33.8 percent (23-of-68).

The difference proved to be at the free throw line as Lindsey Wilson shot 84.1 percent and the Bears hit just 22 for 33 (66.7 percent).

Lindsey Wilson continues its Mid-South road swing at 3 p.m. CT on Saturday, Nov. 23 as the Blue Raiders travel to Rio Grande (Ohio).
