Women's Soccer defeats Campbellsville 5-1

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson women's soccer team defeated Campbellsville University 5-1 on Wednesday night at Ron Finley Stadium in Campbellsville.

No. 1 Lindsey Wilson improves to 6-1-0 on the season and opens Mid-South Conference play with a win.

With the loss, Campbellsville falls to 3-3-1 on the season and 0-2 in MSC play.

Ayaki Shinada scored the first goal of the match in the 33rd minute when Campbellsville turned the ball over in the box on a clearance attempt.

Campbellsville evened the match in the 48th minute when a corner kick by Bailey McDonough made its way straight to Jessica Ralph, who slipped it past Blue Raider goalkeeper Lina Jepsen.

The Blue Raiders answered in a big way just five minutes later. Renee Hurd took the ball down the left flank past the Tiger defenders and beat the keeper to give Lindsey Wilson a 2-1 lead.

Less than a minute later, Emilia Jonsson scored on a header from a corner kick by Shinada for the third goal of the night for the Blue Raiders.

In the 66th minute, Natasha Gensetter found herself at the penalty spot after a collision with Campbellsville keeper Brandie Hagerman inside the box. Gensetter slipped the ball past the hands of a diving Hagerman to push the lead to 4-1.

The final goal of the night came in the 84th minute as Jamie Stanton passed to Bettina Bruelhart just outside the box and Bruelhart finished with a laser into the upper left portion of the net.

The Blue Raiders outshot the Tigers on the night 22-11 and also held the advantage in corner kicks, 10-6.

With the win, Lindsey Wilson improves its all-time series record to 18-0 against Campbellsville.

The Blue Raiders return to action at 5 p.m. CT Saturday against the University of Rio Grande (Ohio) on Sept. 21 at Walter S. Reuling Stadium.
