Box Score PORTSMOUTH, Ohio -- Ayaki Shinada scored three goals and Bettina Bruelhart and Katarina Simic each scored twice as the No. 1-ranked Lindsey Wilson College women's soccer team beat host Shawnee State (Ohio) University 8-1 today at Shawnee Turf.
The eight goals are a season high for the Blue Raiders who improve 8-2 overall and 3-0 in the Mid-South Conference. Shawnee State falls to 7-2 overall and 1-2 in conference play.
The Blue Raiders scored three goals over an eight-minute span in the early stages of the first half.
Bruelhart scored her fourth goal of the season in the 13th minute off an Anna Vig assist for the 1-0 lead. Simic doubled the Blue Raider lead in the 16th minute off Shinada's team-leading seventh assist of the season.
Emilia Jonsson found the back of the net with an unassisted goal in the 20th minute for the 3-0 lead.
The Bears cut into the Lindsey Wilson lead as Allison Nagle scored off Bethany Ward's assist to push the score to 3-1 in the 21st minute. The half ended at 3-1.
Lindsey Wilson scored five second-half goals, including a hat trick by Shinada.
The reigning Mid-South Conference Offensive Player of the Week scored in the 68th, 70th and 87th minutes to match her assist total this season with seven goals.
Bruelhart and Simic each added second-half goals for the 8-1 win.
The Blue Raiders out-shot the Bears 30-7 for the match, including 19-7 in shots on target.
Johanna Henrickson allowed a goal while stopping six Shawnee State shots in her 74 minutes of action. Lina Jepsen played the final 16 minutes in goal without facing a shot.
Shawnee State Emily Kuehn allowed all eight goals while collecting 11 saves.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 5 p.m. CT on Tuesday, Oct. 1, as the Blue Raiders host St. Catharine (Ky.) College at Walter S. Reuling Stadium.
