Box Score ST. CATHARINE, Ky. -- An offensive surge in the second half propelled the Lindsey Wilson women's soccer team to a 5-0 win over host St. Catharine (Ky.) today at the Barber Soccer Complex.
No. 6-ranked Lindsey Wilson scored all five of its goals in the second frame to improve to 6-2-2 overall and 3-0 in the Mid-South Conference. The Blue Raiders move into a first-place tie in the conference standings with Cumberland (Tenn.) following today's win.
Despite out-shooting their host 9-3 in the opening half, the Blue Raiders failed to post a score. Lindsey Wilson tested St. Catharine goalkeeper Emily Belt throughout the first 45 minutes with five shots on goal and two shots off the post.
While Belt proved equal to the task in the first half, the consistent Lindsey Wilson pressure was too much after the break.
The Blue Raiders scored in the opening minute of the second half as Amanda Kander notched the game's first goal to give Lindsey Wilson the 1-0 lead. Kander's fifth goal of season would ultimately turn into her first career game-winning goal.
Lindsey Wilson continued its offensive assault with four more shots over the next seven-plus minutes. Karin Bernet found the back of the net with the final of the four shots in the 54th minute for the 2-0 lead.
Bernet was at it again in the 62nd minute. She tallied her second goal of the game and third of the season to push the Blue Raider to 3-0.
Lyana Perez and Ayaki Shinada added goals to give Lindsey Wilson the 5-0 win.
The Blue Raiders finished the match out-shooting the Patriots (2-6-1, 1-3) 20-5, including 14-2 in shots on goal.
Johanna Henriksson picked up the shutout win with a pair of saves. Belt suffered the loss allowing all five goals while collecting nine saves.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 3 p.m. CT on Friday, Oct. 3 as the Blue Raiders travel to Cumberlands (Ky.) in Williamsburg, Ky.
