Men's Basketball falls to Martin Methodist 83-67

PULASKI, Tenn. -- Slow starts to each half doomed the Lindsey Wilson men's basketball team tonight in an 83-67 loss to host Martin Methodist (Tenn.) at the Curry Christian Life Center.

Lindsey Wilson was out-scored 16-3 in the first nine minutes of the game and 14-4 in the first six minutes of the second half and could never recover en route to falling to 1-2 on the season.

The RedHawks -- who are receiving votes in the national poll -- took advantage of the sluggish Blue Raider starts to build leads of 16 points in the first half and 21 in the second half.

Lindsey Wilson fought back from its first-half deficit and managed to cut the Martin Methodist (2-0) lead to single digits (39-30) at the break.

D'on Hall scored the first basket of the second half to help the Blue Raiders climb within seven -- the closest Lindsey Wilson would get the rest of the game. Hall finished with 13 points.

The RedHawks responded with 14-2 run to reclaim the momentum and extend the lead to 53-34 with 14 minutes left.

Lindsey Wilson refused to go away. The Blue Raiders made one final run near the midway point of the second half thanks in large part to freshman Bryan Wallace.

Wallace scored eight points during a 10-0 Lindsey Wilson run to cut the deficit to 53-44. He poured in a career-high 18 points during the game.

Again, Martin Methodist countered and quickly matched the Blue Raiders' 10-point spurt with 10 straight of its own. The Blue Raiders had no answer for the final RedHawk run.

Hannes Erhardt joined Wallace and Hall in double figures with 10.

Lindsey Wilson ended the game shooting 33.9 percent (21-of-62) from the field. Martin Methodist finished 44.3 percent (27-of-61) overall and just over 46 percent from beyond the arc.

Monte Burney led three RedHawks in double figures with 19 points.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 8 p.m. CT on Friday, Nov. 7, as the Blue Raiders host Miami-Middletown in the second game of the women's and men's doubleheader at Biggers Sports Center.
