Box Score COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson men's basketball team came from behind to top visiting Ohio Christian, 63-60, on Tuesday night at Biggers Sports Center.
Facing a six-point deficit with 1:50 play, the Blue Raiders rolled off 10-consecutive points to take a 60-56 lead with just 19 seconds to play.
Two Tony Horne free throws, a three by Julian Edmonson and a field goal by Horne gave Lindsey Wilson the 57-56 lead with 1:04 to play, their first lead since it was 14-12 in the opening half.
A Keshaun Mayfield free throw and two more free throws by Bryan Wallace pushed the lead to 60-56 with 19 seconds to play.
The Blue Raiders forced a pair of turnovers during the 10-point swing and Horne blocked a Trailblazer layup from behind that would have tied the game at 58.
After a D'on Hall free throw made it 62-60 with five seconds to play, the Lindsey Wilson defense stepped up and forced a turnover on the ensuing inbounds pass. A missed free throw kept it a one-possession game, but another turnover by the Trailblazers on the inbounds pass sealed the 63-60 win for the Blue Raiders.
Facing an eight-point halftime deficit at 29-21, the Blue Raiders (7-6) picked up significant contributions from their reserves to defeat the Trailblazers (6-8). Overall, the Lindsey Wilson bench outscored its Ohio Christian counterparts, 34-15.
After an Evan Mills basket that made it 34-23 in favor of the Trailblazers at 18:29, the Blue Raiders went to work. Five-consecutive points by Edmonson brought Lindsey Wilson within six points at 34-28.
Later on in the second half, Ohio Christian went on an 8-1 run, capped by a Kris Carius three pointer, to make it a 47-38 game with 9:54 remaining in regulation. But the Blue Raiders slowly began trimming the lead, getting it down to a single point four times before eventually taking over at the 1:04 mark.
Free-throw shots during the final minute of play proved to be crucial as Lindsey Wilson hit 6-of-10 foul-shot attempts to hold on for the victory.
For the night, the Blue Raiders converted 26-of-38 free-throw attempts (68.4 percent), while the Trailblazers attempted 10 foul shots. Ohio Christian owned a 42-34 advantage in rebounding.
Edmonson led Lindsey Wilson with 13 points, and Tony Menton and Wallace each scored 10 points. Horne finished with nine points and five steals.
Wesley Russell had game-highs of 18 points and 14 rebounds for Ohio Christian. He also had three assists and three steals. Carius totaled 11 points and five rebounds, while Evin Bartlett added eight points, seven assists and four rebounds.
The Blue Raiders return to play next against John Brown (Ark.) on Friday. The tipoff is set for 6 p.m. as part of the Philander Smith College Classic in Little Rock, Arkansas.
