Women's Soccer cruises into national quarterfinals with 5-1 win over Mobile

Box Score

ORANGE BEACH, Ala. -- Bettina Brulhart and Ayaki Shinada each scored twice to lead the sixth-seeded Lindsey Wilson women's soccer team to a 5-1 win over No. 11-seed and host Mobile (Ala.) at the Orange Beach Sportsplex.

The Blue Raiders (15-3-3) advance to face a familiar foe in the national quarterfinals on Wednesday. Lindsey Wilson plays Mid-South Conference rival and third-seeded Cumberland (Tenn.) at 6:30 p.m. CT. Cumberland defeated Concordia (Calif.) 1-0 earlier today in Orange Beach.

Brulhart scored both of her goals -- the 11th and 12th of the season -- off free kicks. She tallied the first goal of the night in the 12th minute from 23 yards out on a ball that soared over the head of Mobile goalkeeper Rebecca Wynne and into the back of the net.

Brulhart added her second goal in the 56th minute. She blasted a shot from the top of the D around a Mobile wall and into the lower left corner of the goal for a 4-0 lead. Brulhart added an assist during the game for a five-point night.

Shinada scored a goal in each half to push the Blue Raiders' total to an NAIA-best 94 this season. She became the fifth Blue Raider this season to reach double-digit goals for the season with her 40th-minute goal. Shinada added her 11th goal of the season in the 70th minute from inside the six-yard box to give the Blue Raiders the 5-0 lead.

Amanda Kander joined Brulhart and Shinada in the scoring column with a goal in the 37th minute. Kander knocked in the Blue Raiders' second goal of the night off a Brulhart corner kick for her team-leading 17th goal of the season.

Mobile's Savannah Rommel spoiled the Blue Raider clean sheet with a goal in the 87th minute for the Rams' lone score of the game.

The Blue Raiders finished the game out-shooting the Rams 20-7, including 13-3 in shots on target.

Johanna Henriksson ended the game with one save while reserve goalkeeper Megan Rauch surrendered the goal while also collecting a save. Wynne stopped eight Lindsey Wilson shots while allowing all five goals.

The Blue Raiders and Cumberland meet for the third time this season on Wednesday. Lindsey Wilson won both earlier meetings -- 6-1 in Lebanon, Tennessee and 5-1 in Campbellsville, Ky. at the Mid-South Conference Tournament finals.
