COLUMBIA, Ky. -- The Lindsey Wilson men's and women's swim teams both finished in second place at the Mid-South Conference Invitational on Saturday night at the Doris and Bob Holloway Center Natatorium.
Lindsey Wilson men finished with 460 points at the MSC Invitational, 210 points behind invitational team champion University of the Cumberlands (Ky.), who won with 670 points. Campbellsville (Ky.) University (136) finished in third place while Bethel (Tenn.) University took fourth place with 102 points.
On the women's side, the Blue Raiders took second place with 391 points, 95 points behind Cumberlands. Cumberlands won the event with 486 points. Campbellsville took third place with 338 points while Bethel (102) and St. Catharine (Ky.) College (57) finished in fourth and fifth place respectively.
Lindsey Wilson's Paige Lewis improved her national "B" cut with a time of 58.51 to finish sixth in the 100 yard freestyle. Laura Stephenson (2:09.69) finished the 200 yard butterfly in first place, setting a new meet record with her time. Corey Hall secured first place in the men's 200 butterfly with a time of 1:56.66. Luke Royal took first place and secured a national "A" cut time of 48.54 with a first place finish in the 100 yard freestyle. Royal's time set a new meet record by .05 seconds.
The men's 200 yard medley relay of Iker Larzabal, Jonathan Hindman, Same Tate and Royal finished in first place with a national "A" cut time of 1:39.69 and a new MSC Invitational meet record. The women's team of Elena Nikolaeva, Kelsey Marshall, Stephenson and Lewis took second place in the 200 yard medley relay with a time of 1:56.08, also a national "A" cut.
Stephenson finished the one mile race in first in a time of 18:15.79 while Ryan Leamy took second in the men's one mile race with a time of 17:31.03. Iker Larzabal finished the mile race in third place with a time of 17:56.98.
The men's 400 yard freestyle relay of Larzabal, Leamy, Royal and Hindman finished in second place in a time of 3:16.98. The women's 400 yard freestyle relay - Lewis, Marshall, Nikolaeva, Stephenson - also took second place with a time of 3:48.
Lindsey Wilson men's and women's swimming now heads to NAIA Nationals on March 5-8 at Oklahoma City, Okla.
