Box Score COLUMBIA, Ky. – Tara Arnold recorded an 18 point, 10 rebound double-double on Senior Day as Lindsey Wilson women's basketball fell 92-84 to Shawnee State (Ohio) in Mid-South Conference action Saturday at Biggers Sports Center.
The Blue Raiders (19-11, 9-9 MSC) had four players reach double-digit scoring. Arnold was 4-of-6 from beyond the arc, while Cassidy Martin also scored 18 making 5-of-7 three-pointers. Jamie Cummings added 14 points, hitting 4-of-5 free throws and Chanel Roberts contributed 13 points.
Roberts opened the scoring with a field goal, but Shawnee State responded with a three from Alannah Sheets that kicked off a 7-0 run. Two threes by Martin and a three from Arnold helped put Lindsey Wilson back on top 13-12 at the 14:12 mark. The Bears followed by scoring six straight, but the Blue Raiders continued to fight. Roberts made a field goal and Bre Elder knocked down a three-pointer and a field goal of her own to tie the game at 22-22.
With 8:57 remaining in the opening half, Shawnee State took control as Sheets made three more shots from beyond the arc. The Bears would push their lead to eight with 5:43 left on the clock, but Martin would hit three three-pointers to help trim the Shawnee State lead to 45-40 at the break.
Lindsey Wilson shot 51.7 percent from the field in the first half but were out-rebounded 23-16. Martin led the Blue Raiders at intermission with 16 points.
Shawnee State continued to look to its three-point shooters early in the second half, but the Blue Raiders would not back down. Kayla Richardson and Cummings made the most of their free throws to help Lindsey Wilson tie the game at 60-60 with 12:38 to play.
The teams exchanged several baskets, tying the score another four times before Shawnee State seized control for good. Lindsey Wilson missed multiple shots from beyond the arc and the Bears capitalized, going up by 11 at the 4:37 mark. Several field goals by Cummings and an Arnold three-pointer made it 90-84, but with only 17 seconds remaining it proved too much of a lead to overcome.
Sheets made eight threes and shot 5-of-8 from the free-throw line to lead the Bears (18-11, 11-7 MSC) with 37 points and four steals. Diane Abbady recorded a 22 point, 18 rebound double-double. Priscila Santos put up 15 points with three steals and Catrice Mitchell netted 13 points.
Shawnee State scored 25 points off 18 Lindsey Wilson turnovers and another 20 points on second chance opportunities, but the Blue Raider bench outscored the Bears 36-13.
With the loss, Lindsey Wilson enters the Mid-South Conference Tournament as the No. 5 seed and Shawnee State secures the No. 4 seed. Both teams will square off again on Friday, March 7 for a 4 p.m. CT game at the Dallas Floyd Recreation Center in Lebanon, Tenn.
