Box Score 2 COLUMBIA, Ky. -- No. 9 Lindsey Wilson softball swept Bluefield (Va.) College 13-0 and 13-1 behind eight home runs at Lindsey Wilson Sports Park on Friday evening.
Lindsey Wilson (27-3, 13-1 MSC) used a combination of strong pitching and powerful hitting to sweep Bluefield. Casey Bryan started game one and was solid in the circle as she gave up one hit in the first two innings and struck out three batters.
The Blue Raiders gave Bryan plenty of runs to work with as they scored six unearned runs in the first inning to take an early 6-0 lead. Amanda Trampe, with runners on first and third hit a three-run home run over the center field wall to give the Blue Raiders a 3-0 lead.
Savannah Madison cranked a two-RBI single through the second base hole to give Lindsey Wilson a 5-0 lead. Andrea Whelan made it 6-0 on an RBI single that plated Madison.
Lindsey Wilson would add three runs in each of the next two innings as Trampe hit her second home run of the game, a two-run shot over the left field fence to give Lindsey Wilson an 8-0 lead in the second inning. Ashley Evans made it 9-0 after Bluefield misplayed a grounder that scored Travatia Bowden.
In the third inning, Lindsey Wilson's Bailey Mize made it 12-0 when she took the Rams Aline Uehara deep over the center field fence to score Kristina Krupinski and Trampe.
Bryan finished the game giving up no runs five hits while striking out five for her 13th win of the season. Trampe finished the game 2-for-4 with two home runs, five RBIs and three runs scored. Whelan went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
In game two, Jordan Hood was dominant and the Blue Raiders bats stayed hot as they took an early 5-0 lead.
In the first inning, Hood struck out the side and Krupinski hit a two-run home run to give the Blue Raiders a 2-0 lead. Trampe and Abbi Goedde both reached base before Bowden crushed a three-run shot over the left-center field wall to make it 5-0. The Rams relieved starting pitcher Ali Bartley as Aline Uehara entered the circle to get the final out of the inning.
The 5-0 lead was all Hood needed as she struck out 11, retired 12 straight batters and had a perfect game through four innings.
The Blue Raiders added a run in the second inning when Krupinski hit an RBI double to score Evans and make it 6-0.
Lindsey Wilson added seven more runs in the third inning. Hood helped herself as she hit an RBI single to score Mize who reached on a walk and make it 7-0. Whelan hit her second home run of the day, a three-run shot over the center field fence to make it 10-0.
Bluefield's Brienna Sparks took over in the circle for Uehara who was hit in the knee on a Madison Scott line drive. Scott would score on a Krupinski RBI single to make it 11-0. Trampe followed with an RBI single to score Krupinski and make it 12-0. Trampe scored on Mize's RBI double to give the Blue Raiders a 13-0 lead.
Bluefield scored its lone run on a Morgan Stephens solo shot over the left field fence.
Krupinski went 3-for-3 in game two with a home run, four RBIs and two runs scored. Whelan finished game two 1-for-3 with a home run, three RBIs and two runs scored. Bowden went 1-for-1 with a home run and three RBIs.
The Blue Raiders are back in the circle on Saturday at 1 p.m. CT as they host University of Pikeville (Ky.) at Lindsey Wilson Park.
