Box Score COLUMBIA, Ky. -- The No. 3-ranked Lindsey Wilson College women's soccer team had a successful start to the 2014 season with a 4-1 win over visiting Auburn Montgomery (Ala.) University on Monday night at Walter S. Reuling Stadium.
The Blue Raiders (1-0) controlled the play for most of the match as Lindsey Wilson outshot the visitors 10-5, including 7-3 in shots on goal.
Anna Vig scored the first goal of the season for the Blue Raiders with outstanding technique on a give-and-go from Elizabet Madjarac.
Vig started the play by dribbling the ball towards the top of the penalty area only to lay the ball off to a stationary Madjarac. A one touch pass back to Vig -- who never broke stride on her way to the goal -- left her one-on-one with the AUM goalkeeper Chloe Crook.
Vig hit a low rocket to the right side of the goal to give the Blue Raiders a 1-0 lead with 12:58 left in the opening half.
Lindsey Wilson continued to apply the offensive pressure -- the Blue Raiders out-shot the Warhawks 8-2 in the first half -- and added a second goal in the 39th minute.
Crook and the AUM defense endured three point-blank shots from the Blue Raiders in a five-second span.
Crook stopped the first shot from Lindsey Wilson's Amanda Kander but the shot forced the AUM keeper off her line setting up a pair of near open-net tries from the Blue Raiders. Kander -- who rebounded the save -- had a second opportunity that again was turned away, this time by an AUM defender standing on the goal line.
Lyana Perez made a third shot the charm as she scored her first career goal to give the Blue Raiders a 2-0 lead.
Lindsey Wilson carried its 2-0 lead into the half.
It was more of the same in the second half as the Blue Raiders posted two more goals after the break.
Vig tallied her second goal of the game in the 69th minute off an assist from Perez.
Less than two minutes later, Vig assisted on a fourth LWC goal. This time she fought through contact and delivered a pass to a streaking Gwendoline Fai down the right flank. Fai sent a one-timer to a wide open net for a 4-0 lead.
AUM's Emilie Larsen spoiled the shutout hope with a goal in the 86th minute to trim the deficit to 4-1. Stephanie Anes delivered a corner kick deep in the penalty box and over the outstretched hands of reserve goalkeeper Megan Rauch for the lone Warhawk goal of the night.
Lindsey Wilson starting goalkeeper Johanna Henriksson posted a save without allowing a goal in her 79 minutes of action. Rauch recorded one save while allowing a goal over her nearly 11 minutes of work.
Crook stopped three Lindsey Wilson shots while allowing all four goals.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 7 p.m. CT on Saturday, Aug. 30, as the Blue Raiders travel to No. 14 Spring Arbor (Mich.) in Spring Arbor, Michigan.
