COLUMBIA, Ky. – The newly No. 1-ranked Lindsey Wilson men's soccer played visiting Shawnee State (Ohio) to a scoreless draw in double overtime on Tuesday night at Walter S. Reuling Stadium.
The Blue Raiders (5-1-1, 1-0-1 Mid-South Conference) peppered Bear goalkeeper Brandon Pfeifer and the entire Shawnee State defensive unit to the tune of 23 shots on the night, including nine that were on target. The Bears (1-5-2, 0-2-1 MSC), however, did not surrender any goals.
Tom Moody fired a shot from distance in the 35th minute on the left hand side that curled back towards the goal before striking the right post and deflecting away.
Lindsey Wilson nearly crossed the ball over the goal line in the 38th minute. Leander Zapheriou's mid-distance shot from the far side nailed the bottom lip of the crossbar, but bounced straight down just in front of the goal line to keep the match scoreless.
In the second half, the Blue Raiders continued applying offensive pressure but to no avail. Keane McIvor, Yazeed Davids, Billal Qsiyer and Aleksi Pahkasalo each fired shots on goal that Pfeifer turned away in goal.
During the first overtime, Davids booted the ball from near the top of the 18-yard box, but it sailed high over the Shawnee State goal.
In all, Lindsey Wilson held a 23-to-4 shots advantage, including a 9-to-0 edge in shots-on-goal. The Blue Raiders also finished with a 15-to-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Pahkasalo and Davids each had six shots for Lindsey Wilson. Dalyan Hawes did not register any saves in goal for the Blue Raiders.
Pfeifer made nine saves for the Bears in a shutout performance.
