COLUMBIA, Ky. – The sixth-ranked Lindsey Wilson women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision in overtime to No. 3 William Carey (Miss.) on Thursday afternoon at Walter S. Reuling Stadium.
Following a scoreless 90 minutes in regulation, the Crusaders (8-0-1) broke through late in the 93rd minute.
After a foul went against the Blue Raiders (4-2-2), William Carey's Ofosuhema Gyamfi-Kumaning fired off a free kick from roughly 24 yards out that Lindsey Wilson goalkeeper Johanna Henriksson attempted to make a sliding save on. She deflected the shot, but the ball rolled away to the middle of the six-yard box, where Susanne Waitz fielded it and booted in the golden goal for the Crusaders.
The Blue Raiders ended with an 11-to-4 edge in shots, while the Crusaders held an 8-to-4 advantage in corner kicks.
Amanda Kander and Karin Bernet each had three shots for Lindsey Wilson. Henriksson made a single save in goal in the loss.
Gyamfi-Kumaning had a pair of shots as well as an assist for the William Carey while Waitz scored on her lone shot of the day. Crusader goalkeeper stopped four shots in a shutout victory.
The Blue Raiders play next on Saturday when they host conference opponent Campbellsville (Ky.) at 5 p.m. CT.
