Women's Soccer falls 2-0 to Westmont in NAIA Game of the Week

Box Score

COLUMBIA, Ky. -- No. 2-ranked Westmont (Calif.) used two first-half goals to beat host and No. 3-ranked Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) in the NAIA Women's Soccer Game of the Week tonight at Walter S. Reuling Stadium.

Westmont (5-0) proved to be dangerous for the majority of the contest as the Warriors peppered Lindsey Wilson goalkeeper Johanna Henriksson to the tune of seven shots on goal.

Lindsey Wilson (2-1) -- who was outshot during the match 11-8 -- managed just two shots on target for the match.

Westmont -- who defeated No. 13 Martin Methodist (Tenn.) 2-1 in overtime on Thursday night -- struck early in the match off a set piece to take a 1-0 lead over the Blue Raiders.

Mallory Mitchell delivered a near-perfect corner kick deep into the penalty area to start the Westmont scoring chance. Brooke Lillywhite had the first opportunity for the Warriors, but her shot from inside the six-yard box was batted away by Henriksson. Christine Adams was in the perfect place to punch the rebound into the back of the net for the 1-0 lead.

Westmont doubled its lead in the 19th minute. Grace Lemley pushed the Warriors to the 2-0 advantage with a looping shot from the right side just outside the 18-yard box that sailed over Henriksson's head and into the right corner of the net.

Lindsey Wilson failed to find the back of the net despite having a pair of good looks after the break.

Gwendoline Fai found the target in the 76th minute with a hard shot from near the top of the penalty box. Westmont goalkeeper Lauren Dorr corralled the shot for her second and final save of the night. Anna Vig had the final good chance of the night for the Blue Raiders but her shot sailed high in the 79th minute to preserve Dorr's clean sheet.

Henriksson finished the game with five saves.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 7 p.m. CT as the Blue Raiders travel to No. 16-ranked Olivet Nazarene (Ill.).
