Box Score COLUMBIA, Ky. – The 11th-ranked Lindsey Wilson men's soccer team defeated Point Park (Pa.) 3-0 on Senior Night to close out their regular-season schedule. The Blue Raiders conclude the regular-season slate with a record a 13-4-1.
Aleksi Pahakasalo recorded his sixth multi-goal game of the season scoring twice against the Pioneers (7-6-1), while Roger Rizzi scored his first goal of season in the 3-0 win for the Blue Raiders.
The Blue Raiders had multiple scoring to chances to start the game, but Point Park goalkeeper Zak Borzovoy made a pair of excellent saves to keep the game tied at 0-0. Borzovoy denied Pahkasalo in the early minutes when Pahkasalo ripped a curling shot that was headed for the top corner of the net, but Borzovoy made a leaping aerial save to push the attempt away for a corner kick.
But Pahkasalo would get the better of Borzovoy a few minutes later in the 30th minute.
Moustapha Fofana dribbled down the right flank before crossing a ball into the box. Pahkasalo met the pass with a header towards the far post and headed his shot back across the face of goal into the back of the net to give Lindsey Wilson a 1-0 lead which held until halftime.
In the second half, the Blue Raiders outshot the Pioneers 13-3, but Lindsey Wilson could not get add on to their lead until the 81st minute. Franco Roman played a ball into the front of the net from the left side, where Pahakasalo strategically allowed the ball to roll between his legs to an unmarked Roger Rizzi. Rizzi then calmly fired it past the keeper for his first score of the year.
Lindsey Wilson found the back of the net once more in the game as Serge Gomis chipped the ball over a trio of Point Park defenders and found Pahkasalo on the far post where he fired it between the goalkeepers legs to give the Blue Raiders a 3-0 lead in the 85th minute.
Yuta Nomura picked up his tenth shutout of the season as he made three saves in the match.
The Blue Raiders concluded the night outshooting the Pioneers 23-9 with a 7-3 shot on goal ratio.
Prior to tonight's game, the senior student-athletes on the men's soccer team were honored for their dedication to the program and Lindsey Wilson College. The honorees included Pahkasalo, Nomura, Jordan Hall, Yusuf Ackers and Billal Qsiyer from the varsity squad along with student assistant Scott Zettlemoyer, and Matthew Adams, Jordan Kendall, Victor Reynolds, Dusan Pantovic and Kyle Weiner of the junior varsity team.
The Blue Raiders began their postseason schedule on Nov. 5 at the Mid-South Conference Tournament in Bowling Green, Ky., where they will be the third seed in the tournament.
