Box Score COLUMBIA, Ky. — The Lindsey Wilson men's soccer team defeated visiting St. Catharine (Ky.) by a 4-0 margin on Wednesday night at Walter S. Reuling Stadium.
The Blue Raiders (11-3, 4-1 MSC), who outshot the Patriots 8-2 in the first half with a 6-2 shot on goal advantage, got on the scoreboard in the 10th minute when Aleksi Pahkasalo scored his team leading 17th goal of the season.
Pahkasalo, who received a pass from Franco Roman just outside the top of the 18-yard box, dribbled to his right and hammered home a shot past the keeper into the top right corner of the net.
The score remained 1-0 until the 36th minute when Serge Gomis, who got hold of a loose ball about eight yards from the net, angled a shot up and just under the crossbar to put Lindsey Wilson up 2-0 with his eighth goal of the season.
The Blue Raiders, who outshot St. Catharine 8-6 in the second half and 16-8 for the game, increased their lead to three goals when Pahkasalo scored his second goal of the game and 18th of the season in the 53rd minute. There was a loose ball scramble in front of the net, which left the keeper on the ground. The ball deflected out to Pahkasalo, who promptly deposited it into the roof of the net.
Lindsey Wilson's offense was not finished.
Tauan Salgado notched Lindsey Wilson's fourth goal in the 63rd minute. Gomis dribbled towards the 18-yard box, but was opposed by a defender. Gomis, while losing his footing, passed the ball ahead to Salgado, who collected the ball inside the box and kicked it into the net for his sixth goal of the season.
Lindsey Wilson's defense held strong the rest of the way, and Yuta Nomura was spotless in goal making two saves while extending his all time program career shutout record to 31.
St. Catharine's Brandon Campbell made six saves while allowing all four goals in 84 minutes of action.
The Blue Raiders return to the pitch on Tuesday when they welcome No. 16 Union (Ky.) to Walter S. Reuling Stadium for a 7 p.m. CT kickoff.
