CHARLOTTE, N.C. — John-Paul Williamson finished in 26th place in the men's race at the NAIA Cross Country National Championships to earn NAIA All-American honors, while Nikki Coffey finished in 165th place and Maria Cozzens crossed the line in 193rd place in the women's race on Saturday.
Williamson is the seventh men's cross country runner in Blue Raider history to receive all-american honors and the first since 1998.
Williamson earned NAIA All-American honors for the first time in his career by running the 8k course at McAlpine Creek Park in Charlotte, N.C., in a personal-record time of 25:11.2, which was good for 26th place in a field of 326 competitors. He improved upon his performance from the NAIA Preview meet when Williamson raced to a 25:23.1 finish on the same course. The top-30 finishers received all-american honors.
Coffey raced her way to a 165th-place finish in a time of 19:29.5, while Cozzens completed the 5k course in 19:42.5 to finish in 193rd place out of 321 runners. It was the first time that Coffey and Cozzens raced at the championships.
The men's team title was won by Oklahoma City, who placed two runners in the top five and four runners in the top-30 finishers. The Stars' point total was 78, which was 90 points lower than second place St. Mary (Kan.) The men's individual title was won by sophomore Geoffrey Kipchumba of William Carey (Miss.), who ran a time of 23:55.
Northwest Christian (Ore.) captured the women's team title with a score of 98 points. The Beacons placed four runners in the top 11-finishers. Kellian Hunt of Biola (Calif.) took home the women's individual title with a time of 17:16.7.
The race concludes the Blue Raiders' cross country 2015 season.
