Box Score COLUMBIA, Ky. — A four-goal performance from Yvonne Ploeg helped the No. 1-ranked Lindsey Wilson women's soccer team start their 2015 NAIA National Championship Tournament with a 5-0 victory over Point Park (Pa.) in the Opening Round on Saturday evening at Walter S. Reuling Stadium.
Ploeg led the Blue Raiders (17-1-2) with a first-half hat trick, adding a fourth goal in the second half on a penalty kick, while Fabienne Rochaix scored once in the victory over the Pioneers (12-7-2).
Right out of the gate, the Blue Raiders controlled possession of the ball as they rifled three shots in the first 15 minutes of play, but they were unable to get on the board. Ploeg finally got Lindsey Wilson on the board in the 21st minute after Delfina Santellan fed Ploeg the ball near the penalty spot and she beat the goalkeeper to the far post for the first score of the game.
Ploeg continued to put pressure on the Pioneer defensive lines as she scored again in the 37th and 38th minute to give the Blue Raiders a 3-0 lead heading into halftime.
To start the second half, the Lindsey Wilson offense continued to control the game as Rochaix increased the Blue Raider lead to 4-0 in the 48th minute. Rochaix had her original shot blocked by the goalkeeper, but she was able to punch home the rebound.
Ploeg capped off her night as she converted on penalty kick in the 68th minute after she was fouled inside 18-yard box.
Johanna Henriksson and Megan Rauch combined to post a shut out for the Blue Raiders.
This is the eighth-straight victory for Lindsey Wilson as they move to 37-13-2 all-time in the national tournament, along with holding a record of 8-0-0 in the opening round of the tournament.
The Blue Raiders now advance to the final site of the NAIA Women's Soccer National Championship - Final Site in Orange Beach, Ala. Lindsey Wilson faces Kansas Wesleyan in the round of 16 on Monday, Nov. 30, with the time to be announced.
