Utolin's career-high 27 points lifts Men's Basketball over Wilberforce, 88-69

COLUMBIA, Ky. — The Lindsey Wilson men's basketball team picked up their third win at home this season with an 88-69 victory over Wilberforce (Ohio) on Tuesday night.

Dmitry Utolin led the way with a career-high 27 points and was tied for the team lead with seven rebounds. Bryan Wallace had 20 points for the Blue Raiders (5-2) and went 4-for-4 from behind arc in the victory over the Bulldogs (4-4). Charles Sutton added 17 points in the victory.

Wilberforce took an early 6-2 lead in the first 2:41 of the game, but Lindsey Wilson continued to battled their way back into the game as they tied the game, 9-9, with 13:01 left to play in the half.

After leading 19-13 with 10:32 to play in the first half, the Blue Raiders went on a 19-4 to extend their lead to 38-17 with 4:25 left before the break. The 21-point lead was the largest lead Lindsey Wilson took in the first half. Wilberforce chipped into the Blue Raider lead at the end of the period as Lindsey Wilson led 46-33 at the half.

For the half, the Blue Raiders shot 51.7 percent from the field and 62.5 percent from beyond the arc compared to 46.7 percent and 36.4 percent from the Bulldogs, respectively.

Lindsey Wilson opened the second half on a 10-5 run to take a 56-38 lead in the first 1:59. The Blue Raiders regained their 20-point lead at the 12:26 mark after Utolin hit a three pointer. Wilberforce countered with a 9-0 run to make it 67-56 game, but that was as close as they got in the second half, after Lindsey Wilson went on a 10-0 run to build a 77-56 advantage with 6:44 left in regulation.

Lindsey Wilson kept the Bulldogs at ease down the final stretch as the Blue Raiders grabbed the 88-69 victory.

For the game, Lindsey Wilson shot a scorching 52.5 percent from the field and 68.8 from behind the arc. The Blue Raider defense held Wilberforce to 45.2 percent from the floor and 30.0 percent from three.

Next up for Lindsey Wilson is a matchup against Marygrove (Mich.) in their first game of the Lindsey Wilson Classic on Friday at 8 p.m. CT.
