COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson men's swimming team won a pair of dual meets on Saturday as they defeated Union (Ky.) and Campbellsville (Ky.) in a tri-dual meet at the Holloway Center Natatorium.
The Blue Raiders topped the Bulldogs 169-87, and dominated the Tigers 210-27 to improve to 4-1 on the year in dual meets.
Lindsey Wilson's men's team combined to win 11 overall events on the day, including a string of seven-straight victories to start the dual.
A quartet of Blue Raiders grabbed the first win of the day in the 200-yard medley relay as Clemens Patzold, Jonas Muller, Jose Prado de Lima and Iker Larzabal captured first place with a time of 1:37.86, good enough for an 'A' cut.
Ryan Leamy then grabbed the first individual win for a Blue Raider on the day as he won the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:39.51. Prado de Lima picked up a victory in the 200-yard freestyle with a national 'B' cut of 1:50.73 in the very next race.
Patzold took his turn to get a win, grabbing first place in the 100-yard backstroke with a national 'A' standard, beating out second place by over five seconds. Muller followed suit with a win in the 100-yard breaststroke, touching the wall with a time of 59.84, just .09 seconds faster than second place. His time was good enough for an 'A' standard in the event.
Gage Setzer won the 200-yard butterfly event, missing out on a national 'B' standard by just over two seconds. Zachary Patzer grabbed the final win of the seven-straight victories to start the dual, taking first place in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 22.68, just .02 second off a 'B' cut.
Lindsey Wilson was unable to keep the winning streak going in the next event, the 100-yard freestyle, but Larzabal did finish second with a time of 49.42 for a 'B' cut.
Patzold brought the Blue Raiders back to their winning ways with a victory in the 200-yard backstroke, achieving another 'A' cut in the process. Muller followed with a 'B' cut time of 2:15.70 in first place of the 200-yard breaststroke. Patzold added the final Blue Raider individual win in the 100-yard butterfly, nabbing a national 'B' standard with a time of 53.36.
Just as Lindsey Wilson started the tri-dual with a relay win, they also completed the competition with a relay win, this time in the 200-yard freestyle relay. Prado de Lima, Mark Richard, Travis Durocher and Patzer teamed up to win the event with an 'A' standard time of 1:32.22.
Lindsey Wilson is back in action next week with another tri-dual as the Blue Raiders host Life (Ga.) and St. Catharine (Ky.) on Nov. 14.
