Box Score COLUMBIA, Ky. -- Carlletia Savizon and Emmy Svensson each scored to lift top-ranked Lindsey Wilson women's soccer team to a 2-0 win over visiting Georgetown (Ky.) on Friday night at Walter S. Reuling Stadium.
The Blue Raiders (4-0-2) controlled their Mid-South Conference opener from the beginning out-shooting the Tigers 15-4 in the match.
Savizon opened the match's scoring late in the first half.
Emma Skaremo started the scoring play in the 44th minute with one of the Blue Raiders' six corner kicks for the match. Skaremo's cross reached the six-yard box where Savizon gathered the pass and blasted the ball into the roof of the net from point-blank range for the 1-0 lead.
Lindsey Wilson closed the half with a 9-2 shots advantage, including posting four shots on goal compared to none for the Tigers.
While the Blue Raiders carried their first-half momentum into the second frame, the Georgetown (6-1, 1-1 in the Mid-South) defense managed to keep the match at 1-0 heading into the middle portion of the half.
Skaremo once again proved to be the instigator of the Blue Raider scoring, this time in the 72nd minute.
Deep on the endline, Skaremo sent a cross into the penalty area where the ball traveled through some traffic and ultimately found a striding Svensson. She hit a low screamer into the lower left corner of the goal for the 2-0 lead.
Lindsey Wilson ended the game with 15 shots compared to the Tigers' four and a 6-1 advantage in shots on goal.
Johanna Henriksson recorded one save en route to the shutout win for the Blue Raiders, while Danille Lang suffered the loss allowing both goals and collecting four saves.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 4 p.m. CT on Tuesday, Sept. 22, as the Blue Raiders travel to Pikeville (Ky.).
