Cold first half shooting dooms No. 15 Men's Basketball on the road against Cumberlands, 71-56

WILLIMASBURG, Ky. -- The 15th-ranked Lindsey Wilson men's basketball dropped their second-straight game on Saturday as they fell to Cumberlands (Ky.) on the road, 71-56.

Bryan Wallace led the Blue Raiders (11-5, 3-2 Mid-South Conference) with 13 points and seven rebounds, while Ja'Ln Williams set a new season-high with 12 points against the Patriots (12-5, 3-1 MSC). Tre Boutilier scored a game-high 21 points and he capped of his double-double with 10 rebounds for Cumberlands on Saturday.

Lindsey Wilson fell behind early as Cumberlands started the game on a 12-3 run over the first 5:50 of the first half. As they struggled to make basket as the Wallace made the lone field goal for Lindsey Wilson over that stretch.

On offense, the Blue Raiders could not find any rhythm throughout the half as they hit double digits as a team with 7:49 to play in the first after Charles Sutton knocked down a pair of free throws with the Patriots leading 21-10.

The final field goal of the first half for Lindsey Wilson came at the 6:52 mark as Williams hit the only three point field goal in the half for the Blue Raiders as they cut their deficit to 22-13.

The Blue Raiders did not lead at any point in the first half, as Cumberlands took a 33-19 lead into the half.

Lindsey Wilson struggled to shoot the ball in the first half as they shot just 18.2 percent from the field (4-for-22). On the opposite side, the Patriots shot an even 50 percent from the floor.

To start the second half, Hannes Erhardt made the first basket of the half for either team, but Cumberlands rebounded with a 12-0 run to extend their lead to 45-21 with 16:33 left in regulation. The Blue Raiders continued to try and cut into their deficit but they could not sustain a run until late in the second half. After trailing 62-37, the Blue Raiders battled back with a 12-1 run to make it a 63-49 game in favor of the Patriots with 4:09 left in regulation.

Down the stretch, Lindsey Wilson did not back down as they cut the lead down to 13 points with 1:25 left in regulation. However, Cumberlands held off the Blue Raiders in the final minute as the Patriots came away with a 71-56 victory.

Lindsey Wilson finished the games shooting 35.6 percent from the floor after they made 12 of 23 shot attempts in the second half. Cumberlands improved their shooting in the second half as they closed the game shooting 53.2 percent from the field.

The Blue Raiders continue their MSC road swing next week as they face Shawnee State (Ohio) on Thursday at 7 p.m. CT.
