Box Score LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – The No. 5-ranked Lindsey Wilson women's soccer team defeated Georgia Gwinnett 2-0 Saturday night at the Grizzly Soccer Complex.
Emelie Liljered and Annika Koemm each scored as the Blue Raiders (8-3) won their sixth-straight contest, including their fifth-consecutive shutout.
The Grizzlies (7-7-1) had four quality scoring chances in the first half. In the 10th minute, Amy Morland sent a shot that was going over goalkeeper Johanna Henriksson's head, however Liljered was there to kick it away and prevent the goal. Georgia Gwinnett then hit the crossbar three times in the 20th, 31st and 33rd minute.
Liljered broke the scoreless game in the 63rd minute. Koemm set her up with a through ball and Liljered was able to run past the defense and beat the goalkeeper on a slow roller.
Liljered and Koemm were at it again late in the second half when Koemm put the match away in the 86th minute. Following a Liljered shot that was deflected off the goalkeeper high in the air, Koemm followed the ball and hit it first time on a volley and fired it into the net. She now has a team high nine goals on the season.
The Blue Raiders were outshot 10-9, but held a 4-2 advantage in shots on goal. Henriksson recorded both saves and now has four shutouts on the year.
Lindsey Wilson is back in action Wednesday night against Gerogetown (Ky.) at Walter S. Reuling Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT.
